Design of dual scattering foil for 6 to 20 MeV electron beam radiotherapy

The electron beam from the linear accelerator is of size ~ 2 mm, whereas the size of the electron beam profile required for actual treatment is usually larger than 2 2 cm up to 30 30 cm at the iso-center. Therefore, scattering foils were optimized and simulated using FLUKA code. The primar scattering foil as kept niform thickness y w u , whereas the secondary foil was of Gaussian shape with varying thickness; maximum at the centre and minimum at the edges. The objective of this chapter is to discuss the designing of the dual scattering foil for 6 to 20 MeV electron beam. The simulated results obtained from FLUKA were compared with analytical calculations and they are found to be in good agreement.
